Ensemble Monterey presents A Rainbow of Favorites at Peace United Church.

This concert is a rainbow of color featuring three rarely heard but much-loved gems. The great violinist Efrem Zimbalist wrote a Fantasy for Piano, Oboe and String Quartet.  This is a masterwork you may never have heard of but that you really must hear. Seven years ago, pianist Lucy Faridany thrilled audiences and earned a standing ovation for Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari’s Chamber Symphony.  One hearing doesn’t do this work justice – we need to do it again!  20th century French composer Jean Françaix won a legion of admirers for compositions which combine wit, lightness, and kaleidoscopic color. We are delighted to present his Dixtuor for Wind Quintet and String Quintet; this is a regional premiere. Finally, we include one more perfect little gem, Igor Stravinsky’s Pastorale, featuring soloist Lori Schulman.
