Ensemble Monterey 3/26
March 26 @ 7:00 pm
Ensemble Monterey presents Favorites for Strings at Peace United Church.
This concert is for string orchestra. It includes two compositions you will wish you had heard before. First is Ernest Bloch’s Concerto Grosso Number 1. Bloch was a Swiss born, Jewish- American composer who had an enormous influence on American music, both in the concert hall and for films. His is some of the most emotional music written in the 20 th century. 21 st century British composer John Tavener’s Eternal Memory is a work for cello soloist and string orchestra. Our soloist is local favorite Kristin Garbeff. To complete the program, we will present Mendelssohn’s immortal Octet for Strings. It’s been 18 years since Ensemble Monterey performed the Octet and now it’s time for it again!
